As a tribute to an absolutely undeniable legend I have decided that over the course of a career as long and vibrant as Ronnie James Dio’s was, there are more than their fair share of standout albums in his catalog. Some could easily be the best any band has put out, yet this is one man we are talking about. Many could attempt to have a career like his and many have failed as Dio trumps most anybody in that category.
Anyway on with the thing that sets Dio apart from the rest THE MUSIC. Dio’s 2nd solo effort The Last In Line is a testament to how a band can continue to impress with each impending release. Following up Holy Diver was a tall task that Dio and company were more than up to. Starting with the galloping first track ‘We Rock’ the band pulls out all the stops and gives the listener a break every once in a while. Vivian Campbell’s guitar work shines as does Vinny Appice’s drumming which add to Dio’s stellar soaring vocals. Standout tracks are there from start to finish and this certainly qualifies as one of Dio’s very best albums.
Check back tomorrow to see what made #4 on the list.

The Last in Line (song) was my introduction to the greatness of Dio! I had just started playing guitar in the late 1990′s and bought an issue of Guitar One magazine that had a transcription of The Last in Line. I found the tune on Napster, then just had to go and pick up The Very Beast of Dio (cause the only music store in the town where I grew up didn’t have any full Dio albums, just the best of), and was blown away!
@Kyle
he is one of the best for that matter. pick up any rainbow, sabbath, or solo album you can;t go wrong
